Hello Lyonsgate Families,

We are looking forward to welcoming Toddler and Casa students who are new to Lyonsgate this week. Our returning students gave us all a great start to the school year, and they are excited to meet new friends this week.

In the coming weeks we will have regular updates from the Casa and Toddler levels for you, as well as a gallery of photos from the previous week so that you can get a glimpse into their Montessori days. See below for an update from the Elementary program.

Here are a few reminders for the school year:

• Vaccination History forms for Casa and Toddler students are due by Sept. 20.
• Sick Child?: If your child is sick, please email admin@lyonsgate.ca and your child’s classroom, or leave a message at 905-525-4283. Please see the “Sick Child? Here’s What to Do” page under your “Parents” tab on the school website for a table from Hamilton Public Health about how long children are required to be absent from school, depending upon the illness.
• Lunch Menu: The lunch menu for Casa and Toddler students is also available under your “Parents” tab, and you can always check the school calendar to see which week of the 4-week rotation we are on.
• Parent Contact Info: This week, you will receive contact information provided by the families of the other students in your child’s class. Please note that not all families choose to share contact information. Please use the contact information for things like birthday party invitations, arranging playdates, carpools, and pick-ups.

Elementary

We had a wonderful time last week welcoming new students into the classroom! To get acquainted with the six students who moved up from Casa this September, the class broke into small groups to conduct interviews and get to know them better. Afterwards, the new students lay down on pieces of mural paper to have their body shape traced and decorated to look like them! Each group proudly presented their new friend to the class on Friday before our first community lunch of the year. The other major highlight of the week was the presentation of the first Great Lesson: The Creation of the Universe, with simple demonstrations of the laws of physics and the eruption of our model volcano. We are excited to present the second Great Lesson: The Coming of Life this week.
