Hello Toddler Parents,
This week, we ventured a little further to a large grassy area locally known as “the Rez,” (an underground stormwater storage reservoir). It offered opportunities for us to climb up the big staircase, walk on some uneven ground, and simply run in the big open area. It was thrilling for them to explore a different environment. Then, on our way back to the school, it began to rain so we all got a little damp. Everyone had a great lunch and a good nap!
So much information can be gathered and experienced when a child spends time outdoors. It is an opportunity to build physical strength and coordination, explore with all of their senses, reduce stress, and begin to nurture an understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things. Over the decades, children have been spending less and less time outside. Richard Louv’s book, Last Child in the Woods: Saving our children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, offers inspiration for parents who would love to incorporate more outdoor time and “tools to reclaim the wonders and health benefits of nature.”
I encourage you to go for walks with your child. Allow them to lead the way, go at their pace and observe what they pay attention to. Be open to whatever discoveries or conversations happen.
Ms. Gervais.

Salut tout le monde! Finalement, le printemps est arrivé!
I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. We have been looking at the signs and hearing the sounds of the new season.
We have been noticing the warm weather, birds chirping, flowers growing, different insects, enjoying picnics with our snacks, and looking forward to more visits at the park.
The children also joyfully worked creating seed balls for Mother’s Day. Happy planting!
There is so much to discover!
Bonne semaine!
Mme Renée Perazzo.

Thursday, May 23 — Upper Elementary Outing
Upper Elementary students are reminded to be prepared with their red Lyonsgate t-shirt, their Presto card, and comfortable footwear for this month’s outing. The students will be taking public transit to Bayfront Park to hike the Waterfront Trail. Students are welcome to bring along a simple nut-free snack and light-weight water bottle, and should be prepared for whatever weather we may encounter!
Thursday, May 30 — 6th Year Graduation Trip
Our classroom elders will be celebrating their graduation from Lyonsgate this year with a day trip to Toronto to visit the Royal Ontario Museum. Students attending the trip should arrive at the West Harbor GO Station between 8:45-9:00 a.m. to meet up with the group and be ready to board the Lakeshore West train to Toronto. Students will require their red Lyonsgate t-shirt, a Presto card to travel the GO and TTC transit systems, a small water bottle, as well as a packed lunch and snacks. We anticipate returning home on a mid-afternoon train, with student pick-up at the West Harbor GO Station at 4:15 p.m.
Friday, June 14 to Saturday, June 15 — Elementary Senior Sleepover
Students in years 3-6 have the option to join Marissa and Michelle on campus for a Friday night sleepover! This will celebrate our third year students’ transition from lower to upper elementary, and all the privileges and responsibilities that come with being a senior student. For those students who wish to attend, we’ll be having a pizza dinner, followed by an evening of fun activities before settling into our sleeping bags for the night. We’ll enjoy a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning before heading home for the weekend. Please follow the link in your emailed update to sign-up!
Upcoming Dates to Note:
Friday, June 7: Parent-Teacher Conferences
Monday, June 10: Elementary Cultural Fair
