Lyonsgate Montessori School opened its doors in September 2005 in the basement of Melrose United Church with a single Casa classroom led by school owner Rachel Lyons. A Montessori child herself, Mrs. Lyons knew that she wanted to provide a warm and engaging environment in which children could explore and learn with independence and respect. In September 2007, Sarah Kennedy joined the school as the lead Casa directress, allowing Mrs. Lyons to attend to the increasing administrative needs of her growing school.

Over the years, the popularity of the programme and the desire to open a Toddler classroom led Lyonsgate Montessori to look for new building to call home. Luckily, the east wing of the Beth Jacob Synagogue on Aberdeen Avenue was just around the corner and provided the perfect space for the expansion of the school with several classrooms, a large gym space, and a recess courtyard.

In September 2015, Lyonsgate’s Toddler programme was established and, a year later, the school proudly opened its second Casa environment. It soon became apparent that the families and students at Lyonsgate wanted to continue their journey with Montessori and in September 2016 our Elementary programme welcomed its first students. The Elementary school expanded to its own location on Locke Street in 2017.

Today, Lyonsgate Montessori School is proud to offer students two distinct learning environments at our Primary and Elementary campuses in the Locke Street neighbourhood!
